I'm thinking of getting a Dog Silencer Pro to try to stop my neighbor's dog from barking (it barks constantly when the neighbor isn't home) right by my kitchen window. This device is activated by a bark, and emits ultrasonic sound waves that will irritate the dog. When the dog learns to associate this irritation with its barking, it will hopefully stop barking. But I have a question about the possibility of ultrasonic sound waves, which a human can't hear, damaging the human's ear without the person knowing it. I have nerve damage in my ears, so I must stay away from loud noise, that is, high decibels to avoid possible further damage. It's my understanding that ultrasonic sound waves have decibels just like audible waves. (This device's specifications say 120 db.) So my question is, by using this device to irritate a dog's ears, could I do actual damage to my own ears without knowing it? Is there a difference between audible decibels and ultrasonic decibels, or is a decibel a decibel, and equally dangerous whether audible or not? Thanks.
