This forum is meant to be a place to exchange ideas, seek advise, solicit opinions, ask for assistance, and generally discuss topics pertaining to physics, science, technology and education.
Our goal is to build a strong community of enthusiastic users and encourage discussions about or related to physics. It is necessary to enforce the following guidelines to prevent users from misusing this service and ensure a healthy atmosphere for all visitors of all ages.
By registering and/or participating in our forums, you agree to abide by the following rules.
1. Posting links
Posting links to features or articles found elsewhere in the web is both expected and encouraged. However, please make an effort to provide a preliminary description, pertinent personal thought, or quoted excerpt from the link you are posting. Submitting a new post containing only a link with no description is both annoying and a potential security risk to end-users. Outright advertisements for products or services not pertaining to the purpose of ilovephysics.com will be deleted
2. Image posting
Posting images in encouraged. Posted images that are not relevant to the discussion, inappropriate, adult-themed, or contrary to the goals of ilovephysics.com will be deleted.
3. Language
All content posted in the Forums should be in English. This includes your signatures, profiles & posts. Inappropriate language (such as profanity, name-calling, etc.) will not be tolerated.
4. Account termination
Members may contact the forum administrator any time to request their member account be terminated for any reason. The forum administrator may terminate a member account for any reason.
5. Using Avatars
Avatars are small images which appear directly under your forum username when posting. Users are expected to behave responsibly while selecting their avatars. No nudity, abusive or offensive images will be accepted.
6. Passwords
Users are responsible for keeping their passwords secure. If ever you think someone else may have obtained your password, contact the forum administrator to make arrangements to secure your member account. If you use a shared computer, make sure you log out of the forum after each visit so someone else cannot come along behind you and access your account. All passwords are encrypted, and even the forum administrator cannot determine a members password, though an administrator can change a member password if requested.
7. Email address
Users are expected to maintain an accurate email address. Email validation is used before members are allowed to post. ilovephysics.com does not sell email addresses and values its members privacy.
8. Respect other countries
Remain courteous and respectful regarding other people's countries. Anything determined a deliberate slight or insult toward anyone's nationality and/or racism will result in the member being permanently banned. This is a zero tolerance policy.
9. Multiple accounts
Multiple forum user accounts are not permitted. Ever.
10. Usernames
Usernames must be appropriate. Any username that is not appropriate, in the opinion of the forum administrator, will be deleted.
11. Opinions and beliefs
Bear in mind how your opinions and beliefs are your own concern, right up until you openly voice them. Once voiced, they become everyone's concern. If you voice an opinion or share a "theory", be prepared for critisism.
12. Zero spam
ilovephysics.com has a zero-spam policy. We are all for helping people promote their web projects, especially when they relate to physics. However, if you are posting a link to your website just to drive traffic to it, your post will be declared spam and your link removed. If you post links to sites promoting products and services not related to physics or science, then your post will be deleted. Links in signatures are not allowed. What constitutes spam is at the discretion of the forum moderators and administrator. Our ruling is final. Get over it.
13. Cross posting
Cross posting (posting the same topic in multiple forums) is regarded as spam. Should you be uncertain of what constitutes cross posting, refer to the forum moderator for an explanation.
14. Off-Topic Threads & Posts
Threads or Posts which are deemed off-topic by the Moderators will be moved to the right category and/or the entire thread may be closed for any further posting with out prior notice. Offending users may be warned by email.
15. Member disputes
Whenever possible, disputes against other (non-staff) forum members should be handled away from the open forum. If ever you have a particular problem with another forum member, please email a moderator or the site administrator and describe the situation.
16. Disputes against moderators
This forum operates with a clear chain of command and it shall be used for any member disputes against moderators. Challenging any ilovephysics.com moderators or the administrator on the public forum is regarded as the poorest of personal and professional courtesy, and will not be tolerated. Disputes against any moderator should be addressed to the site administrator. Disputes against the administrator should be addressed to someone who cares. Here's a hint: the administrator does not care.
17. Reporting abuse
Abuse reporting should be as specific as possible. If there is an immediate or potential problem regarding what someone has posted in a public forum, please advise the moderator via the "Report" link associated with each post.
18. Intellectual property
Anything posted on the ilovephysics.com forums is considered ilovephysics.com and J. Christopher Moore Publishing's intellectual property, and may be used by ilovephysics.com and J. Christopher Moore Publishing toward publishing derivative works such as tutorials, articles, technical documentation, or books. Unless otherwise specifically agreed in writing under separate contract, ilovephysics.com and J. Christopher Moore Publishing is under no obligation to provide monetary or other compensation to providers of this content.
19. Copyright material
Copyrighted material is ineligible for inclusion on our forum unless the source is clearly stated and verified, preferably with a corresponding link to the original work.
20. Policy Alterations
The ilovephysics.com rules and policies may be modified by the site administrator at any time for any reason whatsoever.
21. Misconduct
ilovephysics.com operates on a "two strikes" policy regarding misconduct. Should a member be warned of misconduct by any moderator, the second offense will result in a general ban from the forums.
22. Appeal
Should you feel you have been treated unfairly by any moderator, you may appeal to the forum administrator. Should you feel you have been treated unfairly by the administrator, you may submit your appeal in writing, and the forum administrator may or may not read it.
