Tablet PC software

I recently purchased a new Tablet PC and am rather  pleased with it - particularly the handwriting-recognition software.   The only glitch in the process is that the recognition algorithms are aimed at words (understandably).  It would really be nice to hand-write my homework/ notes, then convert the written expressions into math-font. Does anybody know of  a good recognition program for mathematical expressions? I know that Microsoft's Education Pack offers a rudimentary program that can handle algebra, but specific symbols (del, for instance) and vector hats are beyond its scope.   Besides this, are there any other good Tablet programs you all would recommend as useful for physicists?

And just as a side-note, I wrote this post in my handwriting and let the tablet convert it to text one sentence at a time.

Re: Tablet PC software

You've got to bring that thing with you to school sometime next week. I've never even seen a tablet PC and would love to play with one.

If the handwriting recognition software can recognize brakcets {} and other characters like ^ and _ then you could just write your notes in LaTeX.

BTW, I've been playing with speech recognition software myself. They've been working on this for years, and it's still pretty sketchy.

Re: Tablet PC software

Speech recog. software is so unreliable as everyone speaks differently. If you could look at speech patterns visualy like handwriting, you would see everyone's voice is different, but recognisable as intelligent speech.

The only problem is with speech very has different dialects, speech styles, lispts, etc. Handwriting is pretty much identical to each persons (compared to speech) that's why it's so hard to make a reliable speech recog. program. It has to be set up to each person individually. People who are disabled and need a speech recog. use very expensive programs, as they the government pays for it.

Re: Tablet PC software

The software I have does OK, but I don't have much of a distiguishing accent (at to American standards) and I speak clearly.

It gets better the more you use it, because it learns those idiosynchrocies
