wavepackets

My question is related to wavepackets . For example there is a wave packet and we know lattice constant and wavelength of it. How we can determine group velocity of it. And how we understand how fast it will spread out ?

And

If we consider free electrons in vacuum
How we can determine momentum, energy or velocity of wave ?

Re: wavepackets

The group velocity is given as \frac{\partial \omega}{\partial k}=\frac{\partial E}{\partial p}. E is the energy, p is the momentum, w is the angular frequency and k is the wavenumber.
