Physics education research, electronic materials, and the musings of Christopher Moore, Ph.D.

I read in Stephen Hawkings book "A brief history of time'
that the value for Einsteins cosmological constant,was a result of the supercooling of the universe.
And that this supercooling, allowed energy to decrease without symmetry breaking, leaving the universe in a state of high order, and an excess of energy which accelerated the rate of expansion to a near critical value.. (the value where gravity balances the outwards motion of everything)

If my understanding is flawed, could someone please set me straight
