Re: ilovephyiscs

Yes it can! We have the scripts ready to install and go live for free ilovephysics.com webhosting, but I haven't had the time to get them up and running quite yet.

Now that I know there is interest, I will dedicate this weekend to getting the web hosting and email up and ready.

Great! Put me down for matt@ilovephysics.com, I think there will be interest for that one! I've got a school load of kids who I can advertise it to if you want!

Matt.

Re: ilovephyiscs

If you want it, then I think there won't be much of a fight for it.

Here's an update. The scripts I had running the webhosting before our big crash and move to a new server don't seem to be working right on this server. I don't know why and I'm trying to trouble-shoot. I think the email scripts work, though, and I'll concentrate on that this weekend so that you may have Bex_the_physics_geek_lives@ilovephysics.com.

Re: ilovephyiscs

It appears someone registered an email account through the software set up on my test server. They have been sending out Nigerian scam letters. Strange, considering you can't just browse onto the application. You have to know exactly what to type, and google doesn't index it.

I HATE spammers.

Hi Chris,

It's been a while since I've posted here.  It's amazing how much work can be assigned :-/

Unfortunately, spammers (and wanna-be hackers [script kiddies]) simply tell software to scan IP addresses, looking for open ports that they can send spam out of or exploit.  And even more unfortunately, they don't need an "account" if a single setting is wrong on the mail server (it's scary, but anyone can send anybody an email from "anyone," anywhere).

Me too.  If you'd like, I can try to go through some of the settings with you and see what we can do to get everything working.  As someone who's mail server was used for the same thing (and it is now secured against all of that), I may be able to help.  Feel free to contact me via email.

Regards,

Jonathan

Re: ilovephyiscs

I installed a GREAT email script (paid for it and everything) and was testing it. Unfortunately, there is a bug in the latest version of PHP that causes anything in the body of an email not to be sent. My current host will not upgrade PHP with the bug fix.

I will be moving servers soon, and hopefully this bug will be fixed on the new servers.
