Why?

Why do you, personally, study physics?
Why do you, personally, study mathematics?

I ask because I was toying around with the notion that I study the two because I'm power-hungry.  Individually, I have little control over my surroundings and the events that take place in life.  Give me a physics or math problem and a whiteboard, and I suddenly have a vast arsenal of weapons from which to draw that lets me exert a great deal of control over the equations.  So, you might say that I study physics and math because they give me a great sense of power and control that I would otherwise lack.  I'm not done thinking about this, but what do you all think?  And what about you, personally; what are your reasons for studying these subjects?

I study mathematics because it is a useful tool. I study physics because I'm fairly good at it and it makes sense to me.

Chemists are physicists who don't do math. smile
